Hanna Soulfood Kitchen Opens in Belle Glade
September 1 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Ever heard of Thrive For A Change of the Palm Beaches? The young, hardworking nonprofit in West Palm Beach serves ex-felons–and was founded by Tyron Hanna, the founder of another even-younger operation, Hanna Soulfood Kitchen. Mr. Hanna created the restaurant in the name of his mother, who died in May 2013, and in his hometown both of which, he often says, helped make him who he is today. “That’s why I’m doing soul food, too,” he said, “because my Mother was an excellent cook and every time I make a pot of collard greens, I think of her.” (That’s her in the picture, btw.) Today is the restaurant’s first day open. There will be a “grand opening” event planned later in the year, after the passing of the pandemic. Hopefully. And thanks also to that, the initial open hours going forward will be 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Only. Today, though, it’ll be open from noon to 6 p.m. So, go. Get some collard greens.
