‘Back to the Basics’ in Riviera Beach
January 25 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
First thing this morning there will be a ‘black men’s roundtable’ discussion on, well, going back to the basics. What is meant? Just ask Tyron Hanna, the event organizer and founder of Thrive For A Change of the Palm Beaches, Inc., a Riviera Beach-based grassroots, ex-felon re-entry nonprofit. He created the event, he says, because of what he sees. Every day. “So many of our young black men didn’t learn the things we did, growing up in our generation, about how to act, how to learn, how to grow and develop,” Mr. Hanna said. “We have to go back to those basics.” The event means to connect young black men with those ‘old-school basics’ that raised our communities, such as respecting our elders, dressing for success and eating meals, not fast food. There will be subject-matter experts there as well as local men, like Mr. Hanna, who recall those lessons learned as valuable foundations for, well, life and “I want the same thing for our kids, today.” The event is free and open to the public and will be held in the City Council Chambers, second floor of City Hall. Breakfast and lunch will be served. For more information, call Mr. Hanna at 561-334-8609.
